Major Arts Grant
Deadline: January 15

The Major Arts Grant is available to support personal creative projects of six to ten months in duration. It allows artists whose work shows exceptional quality or accomplishment to concentrate on a specific project relating to their creative artistic work. The Major Arts Grant covers living expenses, project costs and travel expenses and is worth up to $25,000. Artists in all artistic disciplines are eligible to apply. A maximum of two Major Arts Grants may be held in five years.

Writers Grants (A, B, C)
Deadlines: May 15, September 15

Note: Applicants must be resident in Manitoba for at least one year prior to applying.

Writers A Grant
This grant assists professional Manitoba writers who show a high standard of work and exceptional promise with concentrated work on a major writing project. Applicants must have had two major works published professionally in book form or 250 pages of non-fiction published. The maximum grant is $10,000.

Writers B Grant
This grant assists professional Manitoba writers in the early stages of their careers with concentrated work on a major writing project. Applicants must have had one major work published professionally in book form or 120 pages of non-fiction published. The maximum grant is $5,000.

This grant assists emerging writers with manuscript development. Applicants must show a high standard of written work and exceptional promise, and must have a modest publication background. The maximum grant is $2,000.

Travel / Professional Development Grant for Writers
Deadline: Four weeks prior to project

This grant assists published professional Manitoba writers and editors with projects of short duration related to current artistic work or significant career opportunities. Only one award may be received in a fiscal year and the maximum award is $1,500.

Travel / Professional Development Grant for Arts Administrators
Deadline: Applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the commencement of the project or the departure date.

The Manitoba Arts Council’s Travel/Professional Development Grants are designed to support professional arts administrators in professional development and/or travel opportunities that contribute to their careers. Travel/Professional Development Grants are available to professionals working in the arts for projects that develop their professional skills. These applicants may be administrators employed by a professional arts organization or self-employed arts administrators with professional clients.

Community Connections and Access Program
Deadline: April 1, October 1.

The Community Connections and Access Program is designed to address specific needs identified by artists who face barriers to equal opportunities in artistic and professional development and presentation. The program will fund projects to address the needs of the emerging and professional artists in communities that are disadvantaged or under-served. Applications can be submitted by artists, groups, collectives, ensembles and organizations. The maximum award for individual emerging artists is $2,500; for established or professional artists, $5,000; and for ensembles and organizations, $10,000.

Deep Bay Artists' Residency in Riding Mountain National Park of Canada
Deadline: December 15

The Deep Bay Artists' Residency at Riding Mountain National Park of Canada offers professional artists in all disciplines time, space and a facility in which to work on a creative project in the natural setting of Riding Mountain National Park of Canada. It also offers professional artistic directors and arts administrators the opportunity to undertake visioning, planning and research work.

Riding Mountain National Park of Canada is providing a newly renovated log cabin (live/work studio) to artists, artistic directors and arts administrators who will be selected through the Manitoba Arts Council’s peer assessment process. Residency periods will be between 1 and 6 weeks, from May through to October. Artists, artistic directors and arts administrators are eligible for a maximum stay of six weeks within a 4-year period, and may apply each year.

Special Opportunities Grant
Deadline:
May 15 for projects beginning after June 30

The Special Opportunities Grant supports professional Manitoba artists and arts organizations to undertake unique initiatives or take advantage of extraordinary opportunities. It is intended to fund special projects and artistic endeavours that are not served by other programs at the Manitoba Arts Council. Grants levels will be based on the scope of the project and the availability of funds. The maximum grant will normally not exceed $10,000 for organizations and $5,000 for individuals.

This program provides support for Manitoba students of the arts (crafts, dance, film/video, music, theatre, visual art, writing, arts journalism, or arts administration) engaged in full-time, long-term study at a post-secondary institution in Canada or abroad, and who intend to pursue a career in the art form. Applicants must be registered for a full program for six months or more.

Public Readings by Manitoba Writers
Deadline: 6 weeks before the date of the reading

* AS OF OCTOBER 1, THE PROGRAM IS UNAVAILABLE UNTIL JANUARY 1, 2011 *

This program supports readings by Manitoba writers hosted by community organizations, schools and libraries. To qualify for support, readings must be open to the public (except in the case of schools).

The Manitoba/New Brunswick Creative Residency is a multi-disciplinary program that allows professional Manitoba artists to undertake a one- to three-month creation-based or professional development residency in New Brunswick. This program was initiated as a partnership between the Manitoba Arts Council (MAC) and the New Brunswick Arts Board (NBAB). Please note that preference will be given to: applications from Franco-Manitoban Artists (for the first two years of the program); and longer-term residencies.  The maximum award for this program is $10,000.

Manitoba Arts Award of Distinction

* PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEXT DEADLINE FOR THE AWARD OF DISTINCTION IS DECEMBER 15, 2011 *

The Manitoba Arts Award of Distinction recognizes the highest level of artistic excellence and distinguished career achievement by professional Manitoba artists, in any art form. The $30,000 Award is presented annually by the Manitoba Arts Council as part of its commitment to recognize and support professional artists in Manitoba. Nominees must have made a substantial contribution over time and continue to be productive in their artistic practice. Professional artists may receive the Award once in their lifetime.
